Divination different forms

Scrying is another form of divination and there are many tools which to scry with.
1) Crystal Ball
One of the best forms of scrying, is through the use of a quartz crystal ball. Yet it should also be said that there are those who attain great success with  thecrystal points alsobut this does take much practice and a very focused and powerful technque, and I personally would not suggest this method for beginners. The reason most people chose to use quartz crystal is because of its wonderful vibratory rate, it resonates in harmony with all that is around it, raising or lowering its own levels to that which is needed to be in harmony with the psychic energies around it. It then acts as a focus to those energies, and aids in sending those energies to you (the receiver), at levels to which your psychic energies can absorb and understand. Since it is able to change both your and it’s vibratory rate, either higher or lower as the case may be, it reaches a harmony between the two that is often difficult, if not impossible to attain without the crystals help and intervention. This interdependence and interconnectedness that is established between the two make for a deep harmonious psychic link. This allows both time and space to inter face as one. All information that may not be available to you now, without this link, need now only to be asked sought out, and it is yours.

The sphere or ball is equal to the shape of the world. The world is equated with being the manifested center of creative impulses from which we can draw our psychic powers and energies. The sphere has no beginning and no ending, just a continuous flow of energy an ever renewing cycle, going  on and on into eternity. This is like the evolution of the spirit & soul and the quest for becoming one with the essence of the divine self or higher self.

History of the crystal ball is be traced as far back as to the Medieval Period in central Europe ( 500 – 1500 AD) There have always been fortunetellers through history as well. Religious sciences tell us, for example, about Apollo’s (the Greek God of prophesy) oracle priestess, Pythia who had powers (1500 B.C.). Used by Seers, Fortunetellers, Psychics, and Sorcerers, the Crystal Ball seems to be one of the best and well-known  forms of scrying, as well as a divination tool. Scrying is the name given to the ancient technique of gazing into an object such as a crystal ball or a bowl of water.. When a crystal is used, scrying is known as crystallomancy. Using crystals in the divination of one’s past, present, and future traditionally played a key role in the decision-making process of many powerful leaders throughout history. One of the most notable was King Arthur, who sought out the advice and prophecies of Merlin the Magician. In more recent history, Nancy Reagan, the first lady of then President Ronald Reagan, avidly used psychics to help plan her husband’s domestic & foreign affairs. One of the earliest uses of crystals in scrying comes from the Druids, who used Beryllium Aluminum Silicate (Beryl), a natural gemstone whose characteristics range from transparent to translucent. Scottish Highlanders termed these objects “stones of power”. Early crystal balls were made from Beryl, later replaced by spheres made of rock crystal. The reason crystals in particular became important tools for scrying and other metaphysical aspects is because of their inherent characteristics of transparency and regularity of their patterns, called symetry. Additionally, the energetic fields of crystals influence what the scryer “sees” on a very subtle and often esoteric level

a celtic origin
http://www.the-crystal-ball.com/crystal-ball-history.php

The origin of the crystal ball takes place in britain, 2000 BC. At that time, celtic tribes were unified by Druids. Druids were polytheist and revered nature. They had a very important role in these ancient celtic societies, as they were both priests, philosophers, scientists, teachers, judges and counsellors to the kings. Druids may have been the first people to use crystals in divination.

in the middle ages

In the middle ages, many diviners and fortune tellers (seers, wizards, gypsies, sorcerers…) started to use crystals to see in the past and predict future, especially in Central Europe. At first, crystal balls were made of beryl, a naturally transparent gemstone. According to ancient beliefs, this gemstone was supposed to have specific powers. Later, beryl was replaced by rock crystal which is even more reflective and transluscent.

Royal counsellors

A long time after druids, crystal balls were still used by royal councellors. Dr john Dee (1527-1608), Queen Elisabeth I consultant, was known for his use of the crystal ball in his works. Dr John Dee was a scientist, astronomer, mathematician, geographer, but was also involved in hermetic philosophy and alchemy studies. Dee believed crystal would act as a communication device between him and angels.

) Scrying

Scrying, is one of many techniques for divination.

Information received varies with the type of scrying one is using to get answers. Information can be objective, message given that are independent of the scryer,or subjective, determined or influenced by the scryer. Scrying can also be viewed as a form of mediumship, messages allegedly coming from another realm.
The word scrying has its origins in an old English word descry , meaning to reveal. Scrying is an ancient method of divination, even the ancient Egyptians used it for their initiations.
Tools used are crystal ball, or mirror. These are the more common tools.

Art of Scrying

Scrying is likend to a trance process that goes through levels. Using a crystal ball, or mirror, or other means. It is good to ground, and center yourself first. That way you can remove all unwanted energy Form the air, from your thoughts. Using a mantra is good to.
Now you are ready

Begin with perceived images suggested in the crystal ball, by cloudy images by the dimmed light. It is compare to a visual movie. Declare out loud, and record what you have seen.
There may be a story, a message, and answer there for you.

I have personally tried with my cauldron full of water. I used hot wax, let just a drip fall into the water, and to see what shape it would take. When I did it, the dripped wax split, to me showing me I have different choices, and other options. I had felt with a situation I had only one choice, like trapped. This way of divination I need to practice more. It is not difficult, as long as one is open.

Dowsing ( Y ) the rod

This is another interesting form of divination.
Dowsing is defined ; ” The action of the person called the dowser using a rod, stick, called the dowsing rod. It used to locate underground water, treasure, oil, minerals, and medal. The rod is Y shaped. This form of divination is also called water witching. I have seen on haunting or something, someone use it to pick up energies of a spirit, or entity.

There are those who dowes with a map. What they do is use a pendulum over maps to locate an area where there are minerals or water, or whatever they are seeking for.
The field dowser walks around an area with what looks like a fork stick. It is a dowsing rod, and yes can be used by sticks. It is usually because he is searching for water.
The rods will point downward in searching, then will cross when over water.
The success of dowsing depends much on the dowser’s ability to sense the presence of
what they are seeking. Through their mind, and senses
You can use this type of divination to reveal the presence of an entity or spirit in a house.
Walk through the house dowsing rods parallel, when there is an energy, they will move closer together, depending how strong the energy is they may cross. It will look like your holding an X.

I have seen this type of divination done a long time ago, in the country. The people had found medals, and I forget what else. But that is the closest I have been to this type of divination.

Runes

(Information I got from, was my old runic class notes from ecourse last year, and a book called “The Runes” by Horik Svensson)

Runes to me is a little like tarot card, they can help you with the past, the present, and the future. Most of the runes also have a reverse.
Runes are an ancient form of writing widely used for thousands of years in northern Europe. The word rune is defined as a whispered secret. The runes come from the Norse culture.
Above all the runes are grounded in nature, and symbolize the power exhibited by the different elements, rain, sun, wind, and ice.
The best way of learning to read runes, is one to get a book on the runes, and also to get to know the runes.
This doesn’t necessarily mean memorizing interpretations out of a book, although the literal meanings of the rune names should be memorized as a starting point. Instead, take one rune each day, starting with fehu and ending with oþila, and meditate on it. There are several exercises you can do daily to aid in this: word association with the rune names, visualization, physical connection with the rune, etc.

Some Runic methods of divination
1) The one rune reading.
This is the simplest form of working with the runes. Thus the answer will be simple, but not always easy either.
Think of a specific question.

Pull a rune out of a bag, or bucket, look at it. Hold it. Feel it.
You may get an easy yes or no. Or you may get an image, or thoughts that go with that.
Now if the rune doe not seem to give you an answer, try another question, or try again later. It may be you must wait for the answer to.
2) The three rune read
Ask your question.
Pull one rune at a time out of a pouch or your container.
Lay the first rune face up. This represents events in the past that effect the current situation you are dealing with.
Pull the second rune. The present is represented here. Usually there is a choice facing you, and only you can make it.
Pull the third rune out. It represents future, tomorrow. It can represent unchanging fate.
Or the consequences if you make the wrong choice today. Trust what you feel.

3) The Roman method.
Take a white cloth lay all the runes out on it. Invoke the aid of Odin (Norse Deity)
You may look at each one at a time or all at once, using the above method.
These are the basics to rune reading, and are the simplest.

I would like to add my own experience with this.
I went through a class on runes, and was even blessed with a book on runes.
I have made my own. Little squares of wood. I wrote on them. Left them out for a day
in the sun. Then left them. I was able to several readings. I did a one rune reading, and on one person a three rune reading. It went well. No, I am far from memorizing them.
I am also looking forward to learning tarot.
My suggestion is to take two runes a day, hold them read about them.
Meditate and even sleep with them let them speak to you. The key it takes time to learn.

Elder Futhark Rune History

What we now know as the runic alphabet seems to have developed from two distinct sources – one magical, one literate. Pre-runic symbols, or hällristningar, have been found in various Bronze Age rock carvings, primarily in Sweden. Some of these symbols are readily identifiable in the later alphabets, while others represent ideas and concepts, which were incorporated into the names of the runes (sun, horse, etc.). The exact meanings of these sigils are now lost to us, as is their original purpose, but they are believed to have been used for divination or lot-casting, and it is fairly certain that they contributed to the magical function of the later runic alphabets.

Linguistic and phoenetic analysis points to an even earlier inception date, perhaps as far back as 200 b.c.e.

When the northern tribes began integrating the Italic alphabets into their own symbolic system, they gave the letters names relating to all aspects of their secular and religious lives, thus transforming their simple pictographs into a magical alphabet which could be used for talismans, magical inscriptions and divination.

The name “futhark”, like the word “alphabet”, is derived from the first few letters in the runic sequence, which differs considerably from the order of the Latin alphabet and is unique amongst alphabetic scripts. The futhark originally consisted of 24 letters, beginning with F and ending with O, and was used by the northern Germanic tribes of Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Northern Germany. This form of the runes is known as the Elder, or Germanic Futhark.

Perhaps the darkest period in the history of runic studies was their revival by German scholars connected with the Nazi movement in the 20’s and 30’s. What began as a legitimate folkloric resurgence unfortunately became so tainted by Nazi ideology and racism that the research from this period was rendered all but useless to any serious student of runic lore.

After the Second World War, the runes fell into disfavour as a result of their association with Naziism, and very little was written about them until the fifties and sixties. It was not until the mid-eighties, with the widespread appeal of the “New Age” movement and the revival of Pagan religions (especially the Asatru movement) that the runes regained their popularity as both a divinatory system and a tool for self-awareness.

Some books give upright and reversed meanings for the runes (like Tarot cards). This is obviously impractical if one is casting the runes, since many will land sideways or at odd angles. Also, one would think that if this had been the intention of the original creators of the fuþark, they wouldn’t have designed so many runes to look the same upright as inverted. In addition to these practical considerations, there is also the fact that the Norse don’t appear to have seen their world in such black and white terms. Polarizing the meanings of the runes in this way, even if those opposites aren’t phrased in terms of ‘positive’ and ‘negative’, tends to limit the range of possible interpretations and ignores the complex and subtle relationships between the different runes in a cast.

Runes are tools. In the hands of a skilled or motivated person, they can work very well. However, I can’t guarentee that you will get the results you want, any more than the manufacturer of a crescent wrench can guarentee that you will be able to fix your car. It’s up to you.

The runic alphabet, used by early Norse peoples including the Vikings, has no clear origins; in fact, the word “rune” derives from the Gothic word runa, meaning “mystery.” The runic alphabet is called a “futhark”, and gains its name, like the word “alpha-bet,” from the first few symbols in the series. Runes had no lowercase, and could be written in any direction, from left to right or right to left.

Runic alphabets first appeared among German tribes in central and Eastern Europe. It is known that the Germanic peoples in Europe used pictographic symbols that were scratched into rocks. By 400 A.D., use of a common set of 24 runes had spread across northern Europe, based on Etruscan and possibly Greek and Latin origins. This alphabet is known as the “Elder Futhark.” As time passed, new runes were added on as the need arose, and various versions of the futhark emerged, including up to 38 symbols. The fact that runes consisted of straight lines made them easier to carve into wood or stone

Runic inscriptions of great age have even been found in North America, supporting stories that the Vikings arrived in the Americas long before Columbus.

Tacitus, in Chapter X of his Germania, describes a form of divination used by Germanic tribes:

“To divination and casting of lots, they pay attention beyond any other people. Their method of casting lots is a simple one: they cut a branch from a fruit-bearing tree and divide it into small pieces which they mark with certain distinctive signs and scatter at random onto a white cloth. Then, the priest of the community if the lots are consulted publicly, or the father of the family if it is done privately, after invoking the gods and with eyes raised to heaven, picks up three pieces, one at a time, and interprets them according to the signs previously marked upon them.”

Odin, the Norse High God of the Aesir, hung from the world tree, Yggdrasil, impaled on his own spear, for nine days and nights in order to gain the knowledge of runes. When the runes appeared below him, he reached down and took them up, and the runic knowledge gave him power . He later passed on this knowledge to the Vanir goddess Freya. She, in turn, taught him the magic of seidr. Heimdall, the god who guarded the Rainbow Bridge, taught the runes to mankind.

Made from natural oak branches with bark still on them. Each rune is specially burnt with a Futhark Symbol. Only natural stains are used to cure the rune, no varnishs or unnatural substances.

Each branch is harvested with permission during the month of Samhain. Each branch is cured for a year and a day(a year to assure proper drying so runes do not crack or; easily wear and a day to magically imbue them). The branches are tempered by the element of fire, water, earth, air, and time. Each set of runes is cut from the same branch in order to assure continuity. The magic of the oak is well placed in the cultures of Nordic, Wiccan, Druidic and etc. traditions. Furthermore each set includes at least one rune to have a naturally occuring pentagram, evidence of the magic in the tree.

Why on Wood?

Oak has been considered sacred by just about every culture that has encountered the tree, but it was held in particular esteem by the Norse and Celts because of its size, longevity, and nutritious acorns. The oak is frequently associated with Gods of thunder and lightening such as Zeus, Thor, and the Lithuanian God Perkunas. This association may be due to the oak’s habit of being hit by lightening during storms. Specific oak trees have also been associated with the ‘Wild Hunt’, which is led by Herne in England and by Wodin in Germany. In general, oak can be used in spells for protection, strength, success and stability; the different varieties will lend their own special ‘flavour’ to the magic.

A tree is the most perfect of spiritual beings, with its roots buried alive in Mother Earth and its limbs alive and growing in Father Sky.

According to the Song of the Sybil, when the earth was young, Odin and his two brothers found two trees: an ash tree and an elm, faint, feeble, with no fate assigned to them. Breath they had not, nor blood, nor senses, nor language possessed, nor life-hue. Odin gave them breath. Hoenir gave them senses (shape). Blood and life-hue was given by Lothur.

We are the forbears of the trees. One does not just carve runes, one recreates this ritual. By chanting the name of the the rune, one give the rune breath, the energy of its name. By carving it, one gives the rune senses (shape). By coloring the rune red (blood is optional), one gives it life’s hue.

Viking Ships
Terror of Medieval Europe

The dragon-headed ship or drekar as it was called, was a troop-carrier, capable of crossing the open ocean under its wide square sails, and switch to oars for fast hit and run attacks on unsuspecting towns. These ships were known for their lightness and efficiency, from Northern England to the north of Africa, during the Viking Age (800-1100 A.D.).

The Vikings ability in naval craftsmanship, led them also to build other types of ships. One of which was called the knar, or ocean cargo vessel, which allowed them to make long ocean voyages and facilitated trade. This lead to the colonization of Iceland, Greenland, and America. The knar was of a similar design to the drekar in relation to length and style, but was higher and wider, with less oars. Cargo decks were installed to accommodate supplies and bounty.

The best preserved of the Viking fleets, the Osenberg ship, was discovered in Norway in 1906. This ship reveals the shipbuilders construction style to be much different than conventional methods of ship building at the time. The builders using a broad ax instead of a saw, cut long thin oak planks and fastened them together with iron nails to a single keel, then to one another, creating an overlap with each one, instead of building an inner skeleton for the hull. The lack of a big vertical keel made the long ships more maneuverable and allowed them to penetrate shallow water and river entrances. The sleek ships were light and economical to build.

Other forms of divination.. Oracle decks

I went to the story yes the Crystal Era and broguht something of course this time  the Goddess oracle by Amy Sophia and Marashinsky. These are actually better I think then the Universal Goddess oracle by Doreen.
Plus to this also has your dark Goddesses not just your light Goddesses. although the others did have Kali in them and Osha. This set I brought also has Hecate in it. The Goddess of the Crossroads and it has what Lady hecate has written up in the Cauldron some anyway.
Sekhemet is another good one who deals with anger and rage and how we need not deny it but channel it and transform  it.
It also has little rituals or meditations you can do.

I picked a card for an example tonight of  what one card says for me in a reading/ I picked Isis- Mothering
                Meaning-
Isis has appeared in your life to tell you its time for Mothering
Have you been giving all your Mothering energy away without keeping some for yourself Do you have a project or feel something needs some extra attention and just do not feel up to it?
Everyone needs to be Mothered no matter if you are a maiden mother or crone… Then has a ritual journey to Isis
Each Goddess there is a message and a ritual of some sort and it tells you a bit about each Goddess.

Another way is reading is by looking at each picture and just let it speak to you and meditate on it. mmmJust wonder why it does not have the Morrigan in it tho  but it has Hecate , Kali  and many others KuanYin, even the SheilaNa Gig- Openings
In case some of you may not know She is an Ancient Irish Goddess of birth and death Her image is very vivid as She is seen with Her hands opening Her Yoni Adorned ( Virgina ok) To Celts of long agao they held Womens geniltalia as sacred and honored it with images and even on church doors (Can you just see their faces) but was removed and crushed on the ground for many were offended .
Anyways so far what I am reading and it looks very good.
Blessings…………….Ok now to talk about Oracles
Oracles

There are many kind of oracle decks such as the Goddess oracle, Dragon fae oracle.
Oracle: a source of wise counsel or prophetic opinion; an infallible authority, usually spiritual in nature.

I love this deck it adds greatly to tarot as well.

Knot Divination——–

A Hilltop Knot Ritual

Use an old, brightly coloured scarf of ribbon with happy associations and made of material sufficently light to catch the breeze. On a windy day, take the scarf to the top of the hill or an open plain and; as you walk, tie a large loose knot in the centre to represent a problem that must be resolved or an obstacle that must be surmounted to put you on the road to success or happiness. As you tie the knot, visualise power rising through your body from earth and sky, like glorious rainbow liquids rising in a crystal phial. When you reach the top of the hill or the centre of the plain where the wind is strongest, hold your scarf by one end and feel the power tugging to escape.

Turn round clockwise nine times, holding the scarf and saying:

Blow free
Blow me
Wind untie
Knot fly
Fly free

On the ninth chanting untie your knot and run fast, letting the scarf or ribbon fly away. Recite again and again. ‘The power is free’, until your scarf is carried far away on the breeze. The scarf may be found by someone, perhaps a child to whom it will also bring happiness.

Open your arms and feel the power of the wind, carrying you like the scarf above all the petty restrictions and problems that are holding you back. Run as you did when a child and feel again the possibilities of the open sky as you, too, tug free from the cords. You can now fly free anywhere you wish.

Oracle Card decks are cards which are used to provide an insight and positive outlook for those seeking answers to their most inner questions. Have you ever wished that you could ask spirit, an angel, or even your own pet a question and receive a clear response? This is possible through the use of oracle cards.

There are a number of different types of oracle cards available, and they are generally chosen by the individual according to their attraction to a specific set. Have a look at each of the available sets below, and choose the cards that are suited to you personally. All oracle card sets come complete with clear instructions and interpretations.
